Take a look at the symptoms of diabetes and learn all about this disease that some are calling an epidemic. Here in this short but informative article, we will talk about the symptoms of diabetes and how to know if you are one of those that this growing disease may target.

The symptoms of diabetes are not known by many that can be the prime target of this stealthy disease. As high as fifty percent of those with the type 2 variant of diabetes are not aware that this disease is lurking within their own body. Type 1 diabetes is somewhat more noticeable in that it usually develops faster than type 2 diabetes. The gestational type of diabetes is only for those mothers who are having a problem with it during pregnancy. The gestational variant is temporary in most cases but has all the symptoms of diabetes as the other types.

As stated earlier, the symptoms of diabetes are at times too stealthy for many who are experiencing them. Since this is true, it is wise that those who are more susceptible to this disease should become very familiar with its symptoms. Those groups of people that are at higher risk of type 2 diabetes are going to be those of American Indian, African, Latino, Pacific Islander and Asian descent. The gestational variant of diabetes is more prevalent in those of Latino, African, and American Indian descent.

The list of the symptoms of diabetes shape up as follows; dry itchy skin, exaggerated thirst, frequent urination, tingling or numbness in the feet, losing weight without trying, gaining weight without trying, elevated hunger, changes in vision, sores that are slow to heal, frequent infections, chronic tiredness, and for men there is sexual dysfunction. Having just one of these symptoms of diabetes of course is no proof that you are a diabetic. If you or someone you know is displaying all the above symptoms of diabetes, you should go get a screening by a competent health professional.

One new risk factor that may bring on the symptoms of diabetes is something called "short sleep duration". If you are not getting enough sleep, please try to correct this situation. Good health depends on a myriad of things and not getting enough sleep has now been connected with the increased risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

Stay informed on the symptoms of diabetes and you will give yourself peace of mind. This disease is preventable in some cases and learning how to prevent it starts with learning. Now that you know the symptoms of diabetes you are prepared.
