Are stretch marks an indicator of dramatically losing weight or dramatically putting on weight?

My mom told me that it's an indicator of dramatically losing weight. I've always had them on my hips, thighs and stomach. A few more have flared up recently, and my skin has also become saggy in these areas, so this has led me to believe that this is the case. Are stretch marks more prevalent after losing weight or after putting on weight?
Some good remedies for stretch marks include witch hazel leaf, and coco butter.

Are there any other conditions that could be mistaken for rheumatoid arthritis?

January 18, 2011 by admin

My mom was hospitalized in January with pneumonia, upon her stay at the hospital she contracted a staph infection. Within a few weeks of leaving the hospital she began having pain all through her body. About a month later when she finally got into the doctor, they ran some tests and discovered that she has rheumatoid arthritis. It just seems strange that she never had symptoms prior to being at the hospital, and now she's hurting all over every day. I'm afraid that it could've been a misdiagnosis, as she is cared for by the VA and they missed my stepdads non hodgekins lymphoma (which thank god was caught at another hospital, thanks to his persistance ) I'm just curious if there are any other conditions that could have been overlooked, or If there are any treatments herbal remedies or anything she can try. I feel so bad for her cause shes active and can't do things that she wants to do. She also is experiencing anxiety attacks from the stress. Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

I recently went to the ER for lower abdomen cramping and generalized itching. ?

I have had generalized itching for about 3 years and finally went to the ER. (thought I just had dry skin). But, it keeps me up at night. Testing was done and my double-stranded DNA levels were 5.5. The hospital called and said that was slightly high, yet I am reading all over the internet that normal range is <7 IU/ml. My mom had scleroderma and I have Raynaud's Phenomenon. Any help here? Should I be running to a rheumatologist or can anything else spike a dsDNA level?

Mysterious scars on my back?

January 6, 2011 by admin

About a year ago I went to get in the shower and noticed three (one of them is broken in the middle) long, deep into the skin, horizontal scars in the middle my back. They were bright pink then, but are now purple. Then my mother and doctor said it looked like someone had burned me or wiped me. My doctor was unsure, but unconcerned.

I have been trying to do some research on this on my own today. So before you all say what you think might have caused it, let me explain why that can’t be.

I have NOT had any sudden growth spurts so they are NOT stretch marks, although they have a similar appearance of them. I weigh about 100 pounds steadily, give or take a pound or two, for the past three years, and I have never weighed one pound over 105 so it is not brought on by sudden weight gain or lose. I am not anorexic. I eat every meal. I am 5’8 now, one inch taller then last year and only two inches taller then the year before. (5’8 = 17, 5’7 = 16, 5’6 = 15, 5’4 = 14) No sudden growth spurt...

I have great posture. I walk with my shoulders back and head up high, and when I sit on a chair with no back, my back is straight.

Also, about a year before the scars appeared I had a strange back pain that came on with nothing happening that could have brought it on(such as vigorous activity or weight lifting). The pain was so sever that I could stand no pressure(not even a sheet) on my back. My back was not red, although it looked a little swollen. Anything touching my back would send my crying and trying to get away. The ER just gave me heavy duty pain meds and the only way the pain went away was after my mom got some church group to pray over it… Even though the scars appeared nine month later, could sever back pain somehow cause it?

P.S. I've never had a ghost experience or woke up sweating. I rarely dream and don't have a history of sleep walking, and if I did, the slightest sounds wakes my mother up so she would know. Also Spiritual answers are optional if you haven't a logical one. Also, from my research I looked up morphea scleroderma. Looks nothing like it and is nothing like it so please don't mention that here.

Need a good song to dance to.?

December 24, 2010 by admin

Me and my cousin want to do a dance in memory of our parents. A little over a year ago, I (age 17now) lost my dad after he had been sick with scleroderma (a auto-immune disease) for a few years. A few weeks ago my cousin (age 16) lost her mom who had been battling cancer for a few years. We want to do a dance together in memory of our parents. We want a song that talks about memories of course, but if you know of any songs that talk about fighting a battle and then passing away or one that specifically talks about losing a parent, we would appreciate your suggestions. We don't want a sad song necessarily, actually we want it kinda upbeat like a modern country beat, but we want the people watching (and listening to the words) to know what it is about and that it is for our parents. We will be doing a lyrical dance. that's a more upbeat version of ballet)
Thanks for your help!

Do you think my story would be good on the show "mystery diagnosis"?

December 8, 2010 by admin

Ok.. it started when I was 5-6 years old, I was going to bed one night in late Sept or Oct. I woke up the next morning, everything seemed normal and my dad was going to give me a bath he saw a strange dis-coloration of my left leg and my left lower rib-cage area. The area was really hard and brownish, and red. My mom saw and took me to UCLA medical center the next day. I had no pain, the doctor said I could have scleroderma. The doctor didn't give me any meds and said to wait and see what happens. The pain didn't start for a couple weeks. Sometimes it hurt so bad I couldn't walk and I was much slower than all the other kids. My chest didn't hurt, just my knee. Once we moved my mom took me to almost every single doctor in america (and India). It was horrible, every single time my mom would get her hopes up, she'd say to me "This is it Sharada, I know it - this helped 100 other people just like you- it's going to work." Than it wouldn't. My knee stopped me from doing a lot of things - I often missed school or had to use crutches, or wheelchairs at airports. 6-7 years passed, it was last summer ,I was 12 years old. I was going to another doctor she gave me an MRI and she saw something no one else had a little tissue underneath my kneecap (caused by the scleroderma) and my knee was banging into it (gross huh?). I had to have surgery she said. The second we left that office I turned to my mom and I said,"NO!" i refused to have it done.. refused. Of course I didn't get my way. After the surgery, I still had the brown dis-colorations (i still do) but the pain isn't that bad. It doesn't hurt all the time - of course I still have a little pain but I'm recovering.

That's my story, do u think it could b on the show? No rude comments.
