How to head off the effects of arthritis?
I am in my mid-fourties and am already having a little discomfort some days in my fingers. My dad and grand-dad both suffer from it and must take pain medication eachday. Is there some vitamin or supplement i can start taking now, so i want have to look forward to a life of pain medicine?

I'm taking Lamotrigine for manic-depressive illness (bipolar II disorder). I am very reluctant to stop taking it, as it has been helpful in offsetting dreadful depressions.
However, one thing that has happened to me since taking it is that I have had trouble controlling my bladder and, even worse, my bowels.
I lose control of my bladder once every 2-3 days, although mostly can 'stop' myself half way through. Even worse, every 5-7 I lose control of my bowels, and there is nothing I can do to stop this. Its so bad I've started buying incontinence pads
I am afraid of telling my doctor in case he tells me to come off the medication, as then I will have to start from scratch on a different one, risking the chance of a relapse. And it might be nothing to do with the medication.
But then I'm 25 so its difficult to think of another reason why this is happening.
Has anyone on this medication had these problems? If they haven't then I might as well not tell my doctor.
Thanks very much
8 year old child with urinary incontinence – has been an issue all her life – now other kids are noticing?

My daughter is 8 in just over a month she has always had problems with wetting herself then having to run to the toilet as soon as she can stop any flow ... she has had this all her life - barely a day has gone by when it hasnt happened to her. She has been on a medication called Ditropan before and it worked OK but it made her bowels so backed up she was sick for months trying to clear it so I stopped the medication and have just tried to help her along as best we can. (I should mention its only day time we have problems she usually only has nighttime accidents once or twice a year whereas the daytime is a daily event sometimes more than once per day)
Today she had gymnastics after school (usually a 2 hour session) - she went to the toilet as usual as soon as she got to the gym but after 45 mins she came up to me crying and told me she wet herself and she just wanted to go home - I said I had a spare pair of gym shorts in the car and she could just get changed but she insisted she wanted to go home. I brought her home and then the manager of the gym rang and explained she had an accident on the beam and other kids saw it and knew what it was and she got really embarrassed - what I wasnt expecting was that the gym told me it had, happened for the last 3 weeks.
I took her to the DR who ordered a urine sample to test for infection - none were found - but he asked me if she had been drinking much as the urine was really diluted (nearly water colour) but what got me was the amount she had done .. after school she went to the toilet twice at the gym and then again when she got home and then when we got the the Drs and when she was asked for a sample she did another huge amount and yet she didnt actually drink that much after school.
The Dr is sending her urine sample off for further testing and has ordered an ultrasound of her bladder and kidneys which Ill get done tomorrow. I have also decided to look into thin incontinence pads for her to wear and have explained to her that its just for the small amounts that are leaked out she still has to get to the toilet and she seems ok with this - as long as nobody else knows.
Has anyone had anything like this with their children? I had to ask for the ultrasound but Im wondering if there are other tests I should be asking for? My poor daughter hid behind my chair at the Drs crying while we were discussing the problem and wouldnt come out until we stopped talking about it - she is just really embarrassed ... its never worried her so much but now other kids are noticing she is really upset.
Thanks but that site just takes me to sites that I can buy Ditropan - In Australia I get the medication legally with prescription for .50 and as I have said the side effects outweighed the benefits .. looking for other ideas if possible
the second answer takes me to a site that doesnt load properly ... anyone with information they can put here?
OK first 2 dodgy answers have been removed ... obviously someone has reported them ... thanks to that person
My horses have arthritis, will wrapping their legs with polo wraps help at all?
I've got two horses with pretty serious arthritis and I was wondering if wrapping their legs would help at all. Right now they're pretty uncomfortable because I didn't have enough money to buy their joint supplements for about a week. They went back on the medication yesterday, but they still look pretty sore.
Would wrapping their legs help provide any relief at all? I know polos are to help support the legs, so I was thinking it might possibly help. Any suggestions?

I have had urinary incontinence for almost all my life. I'm 22 now and have a history of bed wetting until I was about 10 or 11. Even now when I am asleep at night, urine leaks out and sometimes it can be a lot. I do wake up to the sensation of a full bladder but I just CAN'T hold it in. I've seen a urologist who diagnosed me with neurogenic bladder and prescribed me to Ditropan. I took this medication for about a year but it never worked for me. I told my primary physician that I wanted to try something else and he prescribed Enablex. I've been taking that for a few months now and I still have times where the urine just comes out. I have actually been in public and all of a sudden the urine starts to leak out and run down my legs. And I try so hard to keep it in, but I can't. I don't know what to do and I don't know why this is happening. It honestly feels like I'm missing a physiologic feature in my bladder that holds urine in. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I am a 18 y/o male and have for the past 3 days been suffering from overflow incontinence... I don't always feel the urge to go to the toilet (although i do more than usual) but the end of my penis is always damp where it tries to seep through, although not to my knowledge does any actually leek. Its really uncomfortable and horrible to live with and I can't see any signs of it going away over time. There is no pain accompanying it, it is literally just the overflow which is bothering me.
Is there any chance that it will just pass and I might wake up tomorrow without this problem? Or if not, is there any medication I can take for it? I don't want to go to see doctor but if there is no other option I will.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I have heard of Kegel exercises, but wouldn't that be a long term thing? I would have thought that it would only take a noticable effect weeks after starting. I will give it a go and thank you for the advice, but I would like something a little more immediate if thats possible.
Can it wait for a few days though? Or should I visit a doctor asap?
Thanks for the advice though, I think I will tell my mum tomorrow and make an appointment then (thats if time isn't an issue).

I have a female mix who is about 14 years old. She's in very good shape to be so old, almost in perfect health for an old lady but like all dogs who get older she has arthritis. I do know if it causes her a lot pain if she walks but sometimes she limps. Other times she a little slow or she stands in a strange manner. Then sometimes she may fall. I hate to see her limp around like that. Is there any medication she can take to help her legs?
