How can I get same amount of aerobic exercise from power walking as I do from my current 20 minutes a day jog?

I am female 54 and jog 20 minutes daily and it has helped me with so many problems (like incontinence). And it's such a great workout for my heart in such a short time. I seem to get more out of it than a long long long walk. But.... a chiropractor just told me with my slight to moderate osetopenia diagnosis I need to switch to power walking and not stress my already off balance backbone. I am upset cause I barely have time to cram in my 20 minute morning jog, it seems to do 60 minutes of exercise in a small amount of time. I simply don't have 60 minutes a day to exercise. I am hoping someone can tell me how to make power walking be a short time frame way to be healthy. I already decided perhaps to do some more arm weight type exercises to get my heart moving more without the jogging. Thanks.

My boyfriend's dad just passed away Friday night…what am I supposed to do?

He had scleroderma, and on friday, he had some problems with his heart and they had to do surgery on him, draining water from his heart, and finding a hole in his heart. He died during the process.

I feel devastated but I've never had any experience with death of anyone. And I just don't know how to feel. I feel sad and sorry, but what else am I supposed to do? Should I not be happy for now?

My father broke his ankle in 3 places last fall and had to have screws to repair it. It will still bother him if hes on it for long periods of time. Hes almost 60 and I think hes got arthritis in it now. He is a carpenter by trade and has to be on his feet everyday. Does anyone know if infered heat will help him get some relief? Or any other suggestions? He does take meds for his heart and for cholesterol too. So yes, hes already on asprin.

My mother has literally been dying of "hardening of the skin" for the last five+ years. And here I always considered Alzheimers the cruelest disease. She bides her time by waiting for this disease to slowly spread then attack her heart, kidney or lung, where it will turn to STONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you even imagine the horror???????????

G*D D*MN M*TH*R F&CK%* I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS DISEASE AND WHAT ITS DOING TO HER.
Id never heard of this disease til she was diagnosed at age 52. Other than back surgery my mother always had a clean bill of health. Not much is yet known about this debilitating disease. If interested in helping please go to the scleroderma research foundation. Light shed on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Nobody seems to understand what the family goes thru watching their loved ones skin tighten, pulling their eyes open wide, mouth pulled back, crippled hands, feet. I cant stop wanting her 2 b FREE of this hell. WHO DESERVES THIS????????????

Does Everyone know that this is National Scleroderma Awareness Month?

Have you ever heard of scleroderma? This is a rare condition that is increasing in frequency. It causes progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. It is 3 to 4 times more common in women than men, particularly younger African American women, but it can affect anyone. The cause is unknown, but researchers suggest that environmental and genetic factors play a role.
In typical cases, patients first develop skin thickening on the fingers or elsewhere. Patients may complain of cold, swelling, and puffy fingers and hands. Arthritic symptoms are also common throughout the body. As the disease progresses, additional organs are affected such as the heart, esophagus, joints, muscles, and lungs. Patients can develop sudden severe high blood pressure and even kidney failure. There is no specific blood test for the diagnosis, although many different tests will be abnormal. There are several treatments but no cure as yet..If you are looking for a Charity, Please give to Scleroderma.

No Cold Meds for Kids

Filed under Colds and Flu, Medical News

In the past, we have always treated our children's cold symptoms with liquids and some good ole cough medications. Well, the old school of thought has been rejected in the new era of medicinal knowledge. A major drug manufacturer recently announced that they were pulling cold medications for kids under 4 years old. The reason? They felt it didn't have any significant benefits for young ones who caught the cold. This reasoning also has the FDA considering a ban on meds for children under the age of 6. This ban may take a year or so, but it poses a very serious question. Do our kids need cold meds? Experts agree the answer to that question is a wholehearted NO! Read more
