Is 14 too old to start gymnastics?

I actually started when I was 3 or 4 and only took gymnastics for 1 year. I was diagnosed with Localized Scleroderma which is where your body produces too much collagen. So I had limited mobility in my foot until I was 8.. I used to be very flexible and I feel I have the ability to push myself more to become more flexible. Needless to say, I beat my disease.. So now I'm wondering if 14 is too old to start gymnastics again? Also can you please tell me some ways to become more flexible? Thanks in advance! (:

Diffuse Scleroderma with another autoimmune disease?

July 23, 2011 by admin

I was finally blessed to find a doctor who took the time to look and listen and confirm a prior diagnosis of Diffuse Scleroderma but he said due to my hair falling out, a butterfly rash and spine degenerating he strongly believes I have 2 diseases. He is sending me to a wonderful rheumatolagist and like my past 5 doctors said no more working (I haven't been able to stand on my own in two years) . What I a wondering is about how common it is to develop 2 autoimmune diseases . Mine are serious and he told me to start making plans and to prepare my family for the worst. He also recommended to try to get SSI Disability with help of a lawyer or Allsup to help pay for wages lost from not working and to help pay for medical care. Has anybody had any luck with SSI with help of a representative ?

Can I be in the hospital room with my boyfriend if he is dieing without being married?

Me and my long time boyfriend are not married. He is getting ready to go to the hospital to get some treatments (he has scleroderma) that has a 60% chance of fatality. So my question is, if we are not married, can I still be with him in the room if it turns for the worse??
Thanks for the quick answers!! He has a will and already has a Medcal power of attourney. I just heard that because we are not married if something happens, I will not be allowed to spend his last moments with him. I hate to even think about it, but I am very worried

I tested positive for scleroderma 4 times!?

I went to the doctor over a year ago complaining of aches & pains throughout my body, & joint pain, some other symptoms I had were- dizziness, muscle weakness, headaches, fatigue, swelling in feet, ankles, hands,& fingers, numbness & tingling in hands & feet, dry eyes, hands turn colors with cold or stress, hair loss, really bad heartburn, bouts of diarrhea then constipation & maybe some others but thats all I can think of right now. So anyways she did an ANA test on me & the only thing that came up positive was anti SCL-70 which she said it means I could have scleroderma. She wanted to make sure it wasn't just a false positive, so she took it again a couple weeks later, still positive. So she sent me to a rheumatologist. He did no other testing just poked me with his fingers a bit in certain areas then said I have fibromyalgia. I was confused why I tested positive for scleroderma then he says its just fibromyalgia. My doctor didn't agree either, so she sent me to a different rheumatologist, he talked to me for a little bit & also poked me in places to see if it hurt, but then he said he thinks it is just fibromyalgia. He explained that if you have another autoimmune dieases you can test positive for a different one, therefore it can be a false positive. He said since I have thyroid disease thats why it might have came up positive for scl-70. They also said they didn't see any physical symptoms. Hmmm so I'm really confused now.So I asked my doctor to take one more test to make sure it was still positive & of course it was. But I trusted them. So I went on with my life. Months later I just kept feeling more sick, so I went back to my doctor she did another test for ANA & it came up positive again for SCL-70. But there are no other rheumatologists in my town that take my health ins. so I' kinda at a dead end. I'm confused, My anti scl-70 was 203..I don't know if that's a high or low positve. Anyone with answers please help! Thanks :)

Arthritis? Sjorgren's syndrome?

June 2, 2011 by admin

My mom is 47 years old and thinks she has arthritris. She recently went to the doctor and had blood-work done. The test was called "ANA Scrn+AutoImm Pnl" When she was done, they gave her a paper that was typed up in doctor-language. The number for something called "SSA Ab" that she got was "H 100", Next to that, it says, "SSA antibodies may be detected in cases of Sjorgren's syndrome. They may also be detected in cases of congenital heart block, neonatal lupus, and some patients with systemic lupus erythematosus".
The test after that was called "RNP Ab". The number she got was "H 113" and next to that, it says, "RNP antibodies are seen in mixed connective tissue disease. They can also be present in other autoimmune diseases such as SLE, Sjorgren's syndrome, scleroderma, an polymyositis".
Neither of us know what ANY of this means... Her doctor told her that numbers received higher than 100 are considered high.
She had the testing done three days ago and the doctor told her that he's referring her to a rheumatologist, which we don't really know what that is either. She would have asked the doctor I'm sure, but the office has been closed for the past few days.
She says that sometimes it hurts to get started walking and she has burning, weak muscles.
Does anyone know what this could be or what the paper from the doctor means?
What exactly is systemic lupus erythematosus? Sjorgen's syndrome? Scleroderma? Polymyositis?
I looked this stuff up, but it was all written in a way that I couldn't understand... just like the stupid paper the doctor gave to my mother. Please help?!

My grandma had the disease Scleroderma. She had 7 kids including my mom. All of them are about 50 years old and have not been diagnosed with Scleroderma of any kind. Me (15 years old) and my sister (13 years old) are wondering if we are going to get Scleroderma. Does it run in families? I'm scared :/
