Have you seen that “Friends” Episode where Chandler wants to quit the gym because he has had a gym membership for years but never uses it? He is too afraid to quit, so Ross decides he is going to quit for him. Unfortunately, Ross is unsuccessful. He comes home from “quitting the gym with his own membership.” It is funny and yet interesting - this idea that the gym, a place where great things can happen can have a negative connotation. What are the pros and cons of the gym?
PROS. Gyms offer a great variation. Basically every type of exercise is available to you and if you are new to working out this can be fun. At the same time you can also work with someone at the gym and create your own nutritional plan. Additionally, belonging to the gym provides you with camaraderie.
CONS. They downside of gyms is that they are costly. They usually charge anywhere from $25 to $100 per month and this does not even include the sign up fee. And often, once you sign up you could be in a contract. So, make sure you are serious before signing up.
Either way, get the facts about the gym you are looking into and decide if it is the right place for you.
