These people have such low oxygen levels, that they need daily oxygen therapy. For these people, the oxygen they receive improves their survival. The more hours during the day that they use oxygen during the day, the better the result is with their therapy.

For best results, experts advise 12 hours of oxygen use. And, they even say that if the patient will continue to do this on a daily basis, they will ultimately decrease their shortness of breath and lessen the stress that the lung disease is putting on their heart. As a result, their ability to sleep and exercise gets better in the process.

The chronic lung disease patient varies in how they suffer with their breathing. Some have difficulty breathing when they put forth too much effort or energy to do something. Others, when they sleep. For each patient, they can determine when they need the oxygen and use it then to help them get the needed benefits from it. Over time, the oxygen levels will be adjusted to their needs and their breathing begins to improve. This is great news for anyone who suffers from lung disease.
