Digestive problems with Lupus and Scleroderma.?

I get a sinking into the floor feeling when eating certain foods, especially with fiber in them. Like cereal-with or without- milk. Any suggestions on what this is? I have digestive problems due to Lupus and Scleroderma mixed.

Lupus patients in particular are very intolerant to lots of foods. I have lupus and was diagnosed for years as having irritable bowel syndrome when infact I just don’t tolerate over processed foods. Sometimes the strangest thing that you wouldn’t imagine can irritate our stomachs.

I now try to eat foods that aren’t over processed ie brown rice and bread rather than white. I also try to cook everything from scratch so avoid additives.

If you’d like more advice on lupus/scleroderma digestive problems please contact our nurse online http://www.lupus.org.uk/onlinenurse.htm, she’s currently away but is back on 20th September.

I’d be almost certain the problems are, as you say, linked with lupus/scleroderma and no other condition.

    Hope that helps.

It could be celiac disease which sometimes comes along with autoimmune diseases and sometimes by itself. Celiac is an allergic reaction to gluten which is found in wheat and some other grains. See link below.

It may be impossible to tell which thing is causing your digestive problems, but since you mentioned cereal, I thought of celiac.

Try eliminating gluten from your diet for a while and see what happens. Eliminating gluten is challenging so you will have to read all labels and do some research. If you feel better then you found the source. If not, they continue to pursue a diagnosis with your doctors.

Those of us who are autoimmune have to do a lot of work to self manage. You can do it!
