There aren't a whole lot of home remedies that work very well or for any length of time. My mom has arthritis also. What I've found that works a lot is a series of exercises called Qigong. You can find DVD's for this on Amazon. These exercises will allow the joints to stretch a little bit and provide a little bit of pain relief. Unfortunately there's still not much available for arthritis. My mom is on Medicare and has to get Remicade treatments every three months. Other than that a lot of arthritis sufferers say that acupuncture provides an amazing amount of pain relief, unfortunately it only lasts a couple days. :/
